The course aims at introducing students to the basics of research at the undergraduate level by acquainting them with the general principles of academic integrity and providing them with effective reading and writing skills. It consists of three parts: I – Preliminary ethical issues: academic honesty and integrity of research; plagiarism and misappropriation; II Reading strategies for academic study: surveying, skimming and scanning; reading for details; identifying and analyzing text structure, topic and subtopics; summarizing & note-taking; III Writing strategies for academic study: preparing to write (identify available sources – text-based and electronic; organize and file materials); planning and structuring the assignment; language (English for Academic Purposes); referencing style.
