Introduzione

We’re living in a cultural shift: digital communication has reshaped the way we interact with one another, form and maintain relationships, and gain knowledge and understanding. What does this mean for the Church? How can Christians harness these new tools to reach out, teach, cultivate community, and change the world? This course traces the Church’s contemporary thought and practice of social communication from the II Vatican Council’s Inter Mirifica to the Church’s approach to communicating the faith through social networking today. Throughout the course, a key question forms a common thread: How might we, following Pope Benedict’s call to evangelize the “digital continent,” form pastoral ministers today for serving the Church in the digital age and beyond? The course’s second practical part will teach students best practices by some of the best virtual missionaries.
