Introduzione

This is the first semester of a three-year sequence of courses in Latin. The first two years are designed to prepare the students for further studies in philosophy and theology. With the aid of a good dictionary and grammar, the student will be prepared to read philosophical, theological, liturgical, and legal texts written in Latin. The third year is designed to prepare students to read scholastic Latin, and in particular the works of St. Thomas Aquinas.

In the first semester, the students are introduced to the Latin language and fundamental grammar, as well as introductory vocabulary. Students are required to obtain a copy of the textbook by Scanlon and Scanlon and are encouraged, although not required, to obtain a Latin grammar and dictionary. (The SPQR app contains both the excellent dictionary by Lewis and Short and the equally excellent grammar by Allen and Greenough, as well as original texts and many useful functions for study.)
