Competition regulations:
1. Texts may be prepared and submitted by students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd academic cycle
of Pontifical Universities in Rome.
2. Articles must be written in Italian or English and contain of up to 35,000 characters with spaces.
3. Texts must be submitted by November 10, 2024.
4. The committee, composed of professors from the universities involved in the project, will choose three best essays, which will be presented during the competition gala and later published in
a scientific journal.
5. Three best essays will be awarded with prizes of €5,000 for the winner, €2,000 for the second place and €1,000 for the third place. All three winners will be also awarded with a five-day trip to Poland in April 2025.
7. Participants have no right to appeal the decision of the Commission.
8. The presentation during the gala may be delivered in the form of a classical reading or with multimedia presentation. The speech may take up to 20 minutes.

The competition is a part of “John Paul II Days at the Pontifical Universities of Rome” held on November 25-30, 2024 organized together by the John Paul II Vatican Foundation, the Pastoral Center at the Church of St. Stanislaus V.M. in Rome, the John Paul II Pontifical University in Cracow, the Pontifical University of
St. Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum, the Pontifical Gregorian University, and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, under the patronage of the Holy See’s Dicastery for Culture and Education.
The John Paul II Vatican Foundation Essay Competition for Pontifical Students
The John Paul II Vatican Foundation together with partner universities invite students to take part in a research paper competition on the topic “Faith and Reason in the Thought of John Paul II”. The competition is one of many initiatives organized as part of “John Paul II Days at the Pontifical Universities of Rome”.
