‘The Church and Culture’ conference at Angelicum

On Thursday, April 11th the conference on “The Church and Culture” was held at the Angelicum to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s Letter to Artists. Declared 25 years ago, the Letter was an expression of the Pope’s personal passion and dedication to art, addressed to all who are passionately dedicated to the search for new “epiphanies” of beauty so that through their creative work as artists they may offer these as gifts to the world.

The conference oragnizied by the St. John Paul II Institute of Culture opened with two lectures: a talk about the crucial topics in the 1999 papal Letter to Artists by Fr. Michał Paluch O.P. (Angelicum), and a lecture by Prof. Rémi Brague (Sorbonne) about the meaning of beauty in Christianty.

A panel discussion followed, with card. Grzegorz Ryś (member of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments), Fr. Riccardo Lufrani O.P., (Angelicum; LUMSA; Catholic Union of Italian Artists), Fr. Cezary Binkiewicz OP (St. John Paul II Institute of Culture, Angelicum), and Michał Kłosowski (Angelicum; Pontificia Università della Santa Croce).
