Welcome Prof. Simon Dürr

Prof. Simon Dürr has been appointed as a new professor of the Faculty of Theology.

Professor Simon Dürr, born in 1987 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, is a distinguished scholar with expertise in both physics and theology. He holds a master’s degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bern (2013) and a master’s degree in theology from the University of Fribourg (2015). In 2019, he earned a PhD in New Testament Studies from the University of St Andrews under Prof. N.T. Wright. Dürr’s research, notably his thesis “Paul on the Human Vocation,” published in 2021, received prestigious recognition with the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise in 2022. He has contributed significantly to academia, including supporting Prof. N.T. Wright’s Gifford Lectures and teaching New Testament at the University of Freiburg from 2018 to 2022. Currently, he holds a professorship in New Testament and Protestant Theology at the University of Education Karlsruhe, where he has been teaching since 2022.
