Course Description

This course intends to provide basic elements of biblical Hebrew grammar and vocabulary in an engaging and systematic way. The vocabulary and grammar learnt early on are regularly revised and reinforced. The student is carefully guided through the exercises. By the end of the course the students, with the command of a fundamental vocabulary, will be able to read, understand, translate, and analyze grammatically the texts written in biblical Hebrew Requirement: It would be useful for the students to learn the Hebrew alphabets before the course begins and acquire the ability to write and read the letters.

A Dictionary of Old Testament Hebrew (The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew-English Lexicon is simpler and is recommended. Or The Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (2 vol. set) by Koehler, Baumgartner, and Stamm – which is much more complex and complete).
