Mariology

Professore

Course Description

This course gives an overview of Mariology in relation to the other parts of theology, including Christology, soteriology, grace, ecclesiology and eschatology. It begins with the presentations of Mary in Scripture and the Fathers of the Church, before establishing what are the Church’s Marian dogmas and treating the history of the modern discipline of Mariology. There follows a speculative synthesis around the central doctrine of her Motherhood of our Saviour. This synthesis begins with her predestination, and covers her Immaculate Conception, Presentation, grace, her relation to St Joseph, the Annunciation, the Visitation and Virgin Birth, her role in the life and death of her Son, her role in the Church, her death and assumption, coronation, her current role in the Church, and the Church’s devotion to her.
