Mystery of the Living God

Professore

Course Description

This class examines the fundamental doctrine of God and of the Holy Trinity in the Catholic tradition. Readings are taken from patristic, and medieval sources, including an intensive study of Aquinas on the mystery of God and the Trinitarian persons. Modern theological themes are also considered: analogical knowledge of God, immanent Trinity and the economy, modern challenges to knowledge of God and reconsiderations of classical divine attributes. There is also reflection on the Trinity and the spiritual life as well as Christian preaching and catechetical teaching of the doctrine of God.
