Course Description

Catholic authors of the “long” 18th century included many men and women, clerics and laymen, who entered into dialogue with the thinking and culture of the Enlightenment. With different emphases, they sought to promote a reasonable faith and piety among Catholics and advocated an open Catholicism that would contribute to the positive development of all humanity. Texts by various authors will be read in the seminar. In a seminar paper, the students will each present an author in his/her historical context and analyze his/her thoughts.
