Brief biography
I was born in 1987 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, where I studied for my Matura, specialising in Ancient Greek and Latin. I went on to study mathematics and physics at the University of Bern, where I obtained a master’s degree in Theoretical Physics with a Master’s thesis on string theory (2013). That is when I turned to theological and biblical studies. I first obtained a master’s degree in theology at the University of Fribourg, writing a Master’s thesis in New Testament on Romans (2015). I then completed a PhD in New Testament Studies under the supervision of Prof. N.T. Wright at the University of St Andrews in Scotland (2019). My PhD thesis, published as Paul on the Human Vocation in 2021, received a Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise by the University of Heidelberg in 2022. During my time in St Andrews I was supporting N.T. Wright’s Gifford Lectures as research assistant. From 2018 to 2022 I also taught New Testament at the University of Freiburg as assistant to Prof. Dr. Thomas Schumacher. After being offered a tenure-track position as Junior Professor of New Testament and Protestant Theology at the University of Education Karlsruhe, I have been researching and teaching there from 2022 to 2024, when I accepted the current professorship, which had been offered to me in 2023. I move to Rome with my wife and our two daughters.
Sono nato nel 1987 a Biel/Bienne, in Svizzera, dove ho studiato per la maturità, specializzandomi in greco antico e latino. Ho poi studiato matematica e fisica all’Università di Berna, dove ho conseguito un master in fisica teorica con una tesi sulla teoria delle stringhe (2013). A quel punto mi sono dedicato agli studi teologici e biblici. Ho conseguito prima un master in teologia all’Università di Friburgo, scrivendo una tesi di master in Nuovo Testamento sulla Lettera ai Romani (2015). Ho poi completato un dottorato di ricerca in Studi del Nuovo Testamento sotto la supervisione del Prof. N.T. Wright presso l’Università di St Andrews in Scozia (2019). La mia tesi di dottorato, pubblicata con il titolo Paolo sulla vocazione umana nel 2021, ha ricevuto il premio Manfred Lautenschlaeger per la promessa teologica dall’Università di Heidelberg nel 2022. Durante la mia permanenza a St Andrews ho sostenuto le Gifford Lectures di N.T. Wright come assistente di ricerca.
