The Congar School for Ecumenics, affiliated with the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at the Angelicum, has just launched the call for applications for post-doctoral scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025. The Congar School for Ecumenics is renowned for its academic excellence in the field of ecumenism, offering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment. Our post-doctoral programs provide the opportunity to work closely with industry experts, participate in international conferences, and actively contribute to academic research in the field of ecumenism.

 

General Information

  • The “Congar School for Ecumenics” is a Postdoctoral Research Programme for Advanced Studies in Ecumenism of the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum).
  • The Programme offers scholarships to clerics, religious or laypeople from different Christian traditions who wish to deepen their research in ecumenism and synodality.
  • Candidates accepted into the Programme will be asked to relocate to Rome for one academic year (from October 2024 to June 2025).
  • Working languages: English-Italian.

 

Scholarship

  • The scholarship will cover academic fees for one year and provide a monthly stipend of approximately €1,200 to cover boarding, travel, insurance, and other expenses.
  • Upon the completion of the research Programme, the University will issue a certificate.

 

Academic schedule

  • Fellows will be asked to participate in:
    • A weekly two-hour meeting.
    • The “Ut Unum Sint” ongoing formation programme in ecumenism (8 monthly sessions on Fridays – including lectures, workshops and ecumenical visits).
    • Conferences organized or sponsored by the Institute for Ecumenical Studies.
  • At the end of the academic year, fellows will discuss the results of their research project, which, if accepted, will be published in the series Analecta Οecumenica of the Institute.
  • Fellows will also have the possibility to attend courses offered by the University.

 

Required Documentation

  • For admission to the scholarship Programme:
    • Curriculum vitae (including a PhD certificate).
    • Statement of Intent (300 words).
    • Description of the candidate’s scientific project on an ecumenical topic. Proposals related to the topic of synodality will be given particular consideration.
  • In order to enroll in the Postdoctoral Programme, candidates must have completed a Doctorate in Theology. However, candidates with a Licentiate in Theology (or equivalent title) and a PhD in another discipline may also be considered based on their academic, pastoral, and professional experience.
  • Ordinary requirements for admission to the Angelicum.
