Brief biography

Phillip Michael Lasater has taught Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Oxford and the Universität Zürich. His first book was on conceptions of fear and fear of God in the Hebrew Bible and its ancient socio-political contexts (Mohr Siebeck, 2019) and he is writing a second book (Habilitationsschrift) which addresses legal thinking and its relationship to notions of selfhood within the Pentateuch and Hebrew Bible and more broadly in ancient Jewish literature, attending also to dimensions of the intellectual history of scholarship in this area. He has worked on the editorial boards of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel (Mohr Siebeck, 2011–2021) and the Journal of Biblical Literature (2022–present).
