Brief biography

Born and raised in New York, New York, I now have a home in Seattle, Washington, where I live part of the year. My grandparents were all Sicilian immigrants who arrived in the US in the early 1900s, so I am very attached to Italy. Since 2016, I’ve been living part-time in Rome and teaching English language arts (literary and textual analysis, writing composition and critical thinking skills) at both the secondary and university levels.

I haven’t always been a teacher. I had a previous career as a lawyer, the profession my parents chose for me. Law was never the work of my heart, so after 18 years of lawyering, I decided to do what I’d always wanted to do: teach English language arts. Over the years, I’ve earned a bachelor of arts, a doctorate in law, a masters in teaching and a masters in fine arts in nonfiction writing. I’ve been teaching language arts at the secondary and university levels since 2002.

In addition to teaching, I love reading, writing, studying Italian and theology, gardening, walking, practicing yoga, traveling and spending time with family and friends. I have a husband, two grown children and a granddaughter who love to visit when I am in Italy.
