Section Description

The two-year curriculum of specialization in moral theology is meant to guide the student on the road towards a personal and deeper knowledge as part of systematic theology. The student is therefore required to develop his/her capabilities for carrying out original research, which is absolutely necessary for eventual doctoral work, and for correctly conveying Christian ethics from the point of view of both method and content. To help the student in this dual task, our Faculty has a teaching staff that offers a program which adheres to the Thomistic tradition. Taking Part II of the Summa Theologiae as the starting point, the program follows the innovative interpretation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (Part Three: Life in Christ; Section One: Man’s Vocation: Life in the Spirit) and of Veritatis Splendor (the four areas: liberty and the law – conscience and truth – the fundamental choice in concrete behavior – the moral act). The courses and seminars deal concretely with one or more of the following areas: biblical-historical, fundamental morals, specialized morals, moral magisterium. The program will include courses from other programs offered by the University to ensure a comprehensive offer and the possibility of choice.
