On 20 May 2018, Pope Francis announced he would make Angelicum alumni Mons. Konrad Krajewski andMons. Giovanni Angelo Becciu  Cardinals on 29 June on the Solemnity of SS. Peter and Paul.

On 23 May 2018, the Holy Father has appointed as Archbishop of Mendoza, Argentina, H.E. Msgr. Marcelo Daniel Colombo, currently Bishop of La Rioja.

The Vatican has given its permission for the opening of the sainthood cause of an Iraqi priest Father Ragheed Aziz Ganni and three deacons who were murdered by armed gunmen in Mosul.

The case of Bishop Paul Faraj Rahho or Paulos Faradsch Raho is also being studied.  Bishop Rahho came to worldwide attention in 2008 when he was kidnapped by gunmen and subsequently found dead in Mosul, an event that drew condemnation from the Vatican and foreign governments.
