Angelicum alumnus nominated Bishop of Hexham & Newcastle, U.K.
The Holy See announced 6 February 2019 that Pope Francis has appointed Angelicum alumnus, and a member of the Oratorians, Bishop Robert Byrne, C.O. as Bishop of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, U.K.
Bishop Byrne succeeds The Right Reverend Séamus Cunningham, who has been Bishop of the Diocese since 2009. Bishop Byrne will be the fourteenth Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. Before this appointment Bishop Byrne was Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham, U.K.
Bishop Byrne did non-degree studies at the Angelicum from 1981-1982 in the Faculty of Philosophy and from 1982-1984 in the Faculty of Theology.
