Scholars from around the World descend on Rome for the XI International Thomistic Congress
From 19-24 September the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas welcomes over 350 scholars from around the world for the XI International Thomistic Congress. The Congress, under the Honorary Presidency of His Eminence, Rev. Luis Cardinal Ladaria Ferrer, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, is sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Angelicum Thomistic Institute, the McDonald Agape Foundation, the University of Notre Dame, and the Jacques Maritain Center.
The Academy’s president, French Dominican and Angelicum professor, fr. Serge-Thomas Bonino said, “This is, in fact, the largest and most important conference of scholars who specialize in the thought of the Common Doctor of the Church, St. Thomas Aquinas. It will be in Rome, that is, at the very heart of the Church, a formidable witness to the vitality of Thomism and its contribution to the intellectual mission of the Church.”
English Dominican and Director of the Angelicum Thomistic Institute, fr. Simon Francis Gaine, said, “This congress will be the perfect opportunity to experience the variety present in the study of St. Thomas today. Participants will witness the continuing commitment of St. Thomas’s disciples to reap the fruits of his teaching and follow his example in service of the truth and engagement with the intellectual challenges of our time.”
Fr. Thomas Joseph White, rector magnificus, said, “It’s a great privilege for our academic community to welcome so many scholars from around the world to Rome as we seek to further theological scholarship for the good of the academy, and for the wider missionary life of the Church.”
It is still possible to register at the door. Morning plenary sessions will be livestreamed. Some talks will have simultaneous translations. For the entire schedule go to the multilingual website: https://angelicum.it/TI-romathomism2022/
