Dear Friends of the Angelicum and the Eternal City,

The Ven. fr. Michael J. McGivney, diocesan priest and founder of the Knights of Columbus will be beatified in Connecticut (USA) on Saturday, 31 October 2020 around 5PM CET (Rome time) when the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas will begin a simple Holy Hour followed by a 6PM ITA Mass with preaching in ENG in the university’s adjoining Church of Ss. Sisto e Domenico.

We would like to invite you to be a part of the Beatification of Fr. Michael J. McGivney with your prayer support. Within fr. McGivney’s diocese (Hartford, CT) the Dominican Friars are teaming up with the Knights of Columbus in holding a 48-hour prayer vigil at St. Mary parish church where Fr. McGivney, served as a young priest in 1877-1884; and currently the church contains his body. The Dominicans were given the parish after fr. McGivney’s time as pastor of St. Mary’s.

The 48 hours surrounding his Beatification on October 31 will be live-streamed, making it a worldwide event and involving people who could not be present otherwise. Parts of it, moreover, will be televised by EWTN.

The Angelicum community and Everyone in Rome is invited to join in this vigil and pray for all those seeking the intercession of fr. McGivney.

Experience has shown that the event of the beatification is often the occasion when the miracle that leads to canonization is granted. May our gracious Lord grant His people graces in overflowing measure for body, soul, and spirit!

It is a significant and grace-filled moment in the life of the Church to have another holy diocesan priest raised to the altars, so we would love to have you involved with your prayers in support of those looking to the intercession of Fr. Michael McGivney. The Communion of Saints extends vertically to the Church Triumphant in Heaven but also horizontally through the Church Militant spread throughout the world.

Please consider joining us and being an integral part of this key moment in the life of the Church. Thank you!

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney:

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

fr. Michael McGivney, pray for us!
