The Ethics of Law in Judaism
“The Divine giving of Torah, of the teaching and the law is understood in the Jewish tradition as the great bounty God bestows upon humans for a good life. The revelation at Sinai includes however two moments one — the Decalogue, the other the detailed norms. How are we to understand the relation between these two moments? What does this teach us about the meaning and the conditions of law? The lecture will explore these issues seeking to deepen our understanding of the law as teaching both united in the concept of torah.”
