Conference: The Blessed Ulma Family – martyrs of war

Nov 28 at 17:00 - 20:00

On Tuesday, November 28th at 5.00 pm we invite you to a conference about the Ulma family, beatified by Pope Francis on September 10th of this year, in their home village Markowa (Poland). The whole family of nine – the parents Józef and Wiktoria and their seven young children, including one unborn – was martyred on the morning of March 24th, 1944, during World War II, for providing shelter to Jewish families hiding from the German Nazi regime. The Ulmas are the first in Church history to have been officially beatified together as a family.

The conference will open with a lecture by Dr. Mateusz Szpytma, historian who discovered and researched the story of the Ulmas, himself from Markowa village and related to Bl. Wiktoria Ulma.

A panel discussion will follow, with prof. Catherine Joseph Droste, OP (Faculty of Theology, Angelicum), Kamil Kopera (Pilecki Institute), George Weigel (Ethics and Public Policy Center), moderated by Tomasz Herbich (University of Warsaw/Saint Nicholas Foundation).

The conference will end with a film screening of the documentary film “The Ulmas. A blessed family” (Rafael Film).
