The Church and culture. Conference on the 25th Anniversary of the “Letter to Artists” by John Paul II.

April 11 at 14:30 - 18:00

On Thursday, April 11th at 2.30 pm we invite you to a conference titled “The Church and Culture” to commemorate the 25th anniversary of John Paul II’s Letter to Artists. The conference discussion will focus on the past and present opportunities and challenges in the mutual relations between Christianity and culture. Declared 25 years ago, the Letter to Artists was an expression of Pope John Paul II’s personal passion and dedication to art, addressed to all who are passionately dedicated to the search for new “epiphanies” of beauty so that through their creative work as artists they may offer these as gifts to the world.

The conference will open with two lectures: a talk about the crucial topics in the 1999 papal Letter to Artists by Fr. Michał Paluch O.P. (Angelicum), and a lecture by Prof. Rémi Brague (Sorbonne) about the meaning of beauty in Christianty.

A panel discussion will follow, with card. Grzegorz Ryś (member of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments), Fr. Riccardo Lufrani O.P., (Angelicum; LUMSA; Catholic Union of Italian Artists), Dr. Dariusz Karłowicz (St. John Paul II Institute of Culture, Angelicum), and ed. Michał Kłosowski (St. John Paul II Institute of Culture, Angelicum; Pontificia Università della Santa Croce).

The conference will be held in English.
