Launched in October 2019 to mark the 25th anniversary of the encyclical Ut Unum Sint of John Paul II, the course provides an on-going formation in ecumenism in collaboration with the Pontifical Council for promoting Christian Unity. A unique initiative in Italy, led by teachers from various Churches, it is especially addressed to diocesan ecumenical officers. The course offers a high-level study program in Italian (sixteen thematic units over two years, one Friday-Saturday per month), at the end of which is granted a Diploma “Ut Unum Sint” in Ecumenical Studies. Each thematic unit includes 3 lessons of 4 academic hours on different topics, an ecumenical visit in Rome, and the attendance to the “Tillard Chair”.
The program is divided into 8 units, on Friday once a month, for one years. Each thematic unit includes:
- A lecture of four academic hours.
- A workshop.
- An ecumenical visit to Rome and its surroundings.
The lessons will be held in Italian by professors and experts in the subject, belonging to different churches.
At the end of the curriculum, it is possible to obtain the “Ut Unum Sint” Diploma in Ecumenical Studies (Diploma awarded by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies). To obtain the “Ut Unum Sint” Diploma are required:
- Attendance at the units.
- A final essay.
- An exam to be passed at the end of the year in front of a commission of professors from the Institute of Ecumenical Studies.
Those who do not intend to obtain the Diploma will receive a certificate of participation (always with the minimum attendance required).
